Ever watched an interesting video but forgot to subscribe and couldn't remember the creator's name? One reason this happens is because the channel's name isn't memorable enough.

The YouTube channel name you choose will be your brand. It should reflect your personality, content type, and the audience you want to attract. But let's be honest: brainstorming name ideas is tough.

Choosing the right name for your new YouTube channel is like trying to find yourself during your college years. It's a lot of self-discovery to determine who you are, including your personality, creativity, unique perspective, and values. Your YouTube channel will reflect you as a creator, so it’s important to know who you are as a creator.

If you’re struggling to name the new home for your online videos, you’re in luck. We’ve compiled a list of 175 YouTube channel name ideas to help your brand get noticed, complete with a step-by-step guide on how to choose the right one.

Why YouTube channel names matter

A YouTube channel name isn't just a label—it's a powerful tool that can significantly impact your channel's success. Here are the top reasons you should care about yours.

Establishes your brand identity

Once you decide your YouTube channel's name,  it'll become your channel's identity. And while you can change your own YouTube channel name at any time, it can hurt your branding if you do so after thousands of people subscribe.

A well-chosen name can effectively communicate your brand's personality and the content you offer. It can help you stand out in a crowded marketplace and establish a strong brand identity that resonates with your target audience. These are critical if you want to compete in a crowded space with dozens of channels appearing in search results next to yours.

Creates memorable and shareable names

The recipe of virality: entertaining, useful content, and a memorable name. Sure, folks can hit the share button to help your content go viral. But what about verbal sharing? If subscribers or casual viewers want to recommend your channel, they should be able to remember it off the top of their heads. Insert the need for a memorable name.

A cool YouTube channel name can also stimulate curiosity and attract viewers to your channel. That's why we recommend selecting a unique and creative name that expresses your channel. For example, the channel "Crypto Galaxy" is unique and easy enough to remember and clearly communicates the channel's content—everything to do with cryptocurrency.

If you can communicate your content niche in your name, searchers are more likely to click on your channel in the search results or recommendations section.

Shows professionalism and creativity

YouTube viewers enjoy authentic content, but still done in a high-quality manner. The quality of your videos matter, and the same is true for the quality of your channel.

A well thought-out channel name demonstrates your professionalism and creativity. It shows you've invested time and effort into conceptualizing your channel, which can attract more viewers and potential subscribers. A creative name can also reflect the quality and uniqueness of your content, encouraging viewers to explore your channel further.

175 best YouTube channel name ideas

Not sure where to begin brainstorming ideas for a good YouTube channel name? From business content to lifestyle channels, here's a list of 175 creative and unique channel ideas based on niche/industry.

These names are meant to be creative and unique to help your YouTube channel stand out. Consider the types of YouTube videos you'll create. And remember to check the availability of these names on YouTube and other social media platforms before claiming one.

How to choose a YouTube channel name: 9 tips

You selected a YouTube channel name, delivered exceptional content, and built a community. The last thing you want is to get your channel deleted or suspended. Here are eight tips to prevent making a mistake that could cost you your YouTube channel.

1. Follow YouTube's community guidelines

Is the channel name you chose appropriate for YouTube? The name you pick needs to adhere to the platform’s Community Guidelines, which prevent things like hate speech, harassment, and inappropriate content.

Here's an overview of YouTube's guidelines:

  • Avoid impersonating others or using names that are already taken
  • Steer clear of using offensive or inappropriate language
  • Refrain from using names that are sexually suggestive or violent
  • Avoid using names that promote illegal activities or hate speech

2. Keep it short and sweet

Aim for a channel name that is no more than 20 characters long. Short channel names are easier to remember and type, which can help someone search for and find your channel easily. MrBeast is a great example of being just the right length.

You should also avoid using special characters and numbers because this can make them difficult to remember. An exception would be if the number is universally known and simple to remember like 411 or 444.

3. Make it memorable and easy to pronounce

Wordplay is fun, but it’s best to err on the side of caution and choose a channel name that's easy for people to say, spell, and remember. This will help avoid confusion and ensure that people can easily find your channel when they search for it.

Ensure your name is also appropriate for a global audience. For instance, choose a universally appealing name that's easy to pronounce and avoids cultural offense and regional specificity.

4. Use relevant keywords for SEO

Incorporate keywords relevant to your channel's content. This can improve your new channel's visibility in YouTube search engine results, making it easier for potential viewers to understand what your channel is about. For instance, if your channel explains genetics, you could include relevant works like genes, DNA, and genealogy in your channel's name.

You can use tools to find what people search for in your niche to see if you can incorporate them into your name like Google's Keyword Planner, Semrush, and Ahrefs.

Or, you can go to YouTube and type into the search bar to see the autosuggest recommendations. The auto-suggestions are based on popular search queries, providing valuable insight into the keywords and phrases people actively search for on YouTube.

5. Make it unique

Before settling on a name, check if another channel already uses it. A unique YouTube channel name can help yours stand out and avoid confusion with other channels. This avoids confusion when people are searching for your channel (and prevents them from landing on a potential competitor's channel).

For instance, if you chose the name "The Artistic Soul," you'd be competing with a half a dozen other channels:

YouTube search results for term “the artistic soul”

6. Get feedback

A name may sound awesome to you, but to others… not so much. Get a second, third, and fourth opinion on your channel name to see if it hits home. Ask friends, family, and colleagues if the name aligns with the channel, is easy to remember, or seems offensive to certain audiences.

7. Consider your target audience

Your target audience will often depend on the subject matter of your channel. It’s best to focus on who will make up most of your audience and have a name that appeals to them. For instance, if your target audience is middle-aged biker men, then you wouldn't use a name that's "cute" or "childish," like "Tulip Thunder Bikes" or "Flower Power Harleys." Better options would be "Steel Rider TV" or "Road Warrior Channel."

8. Use YouTube channel name generators

Still struggling to come up with YouTube channel name ideas? There are AI generation tools you can use to inspire your creativity. Consider using ChatGPT—or a tool that uses the same system, such as Descript’s Ask AI feature—to generate potential names.

Just type in a prompt like: "I am a content creator looking to create a new YouTube channel name. Write a list of 20 unique and creative channel name ideas that relate to the topic X and will appeal to Y audience."

There are also tools designed specifically for name generation. For instance, the Hootsuite YouTube Name Ideas Generator. Either way, double-check that the names aren't taken. Use the ideas as inspiration to make it more your own.

‎9. Check the name is available elsewhere

Although YouTube will let you choose a YouTube name that is similar to another creator’s, it’s best practice to make sure the same name is available on other online channels. You don’t want to confuse viewers by making it almost impossible to find your website.

Before committing to a YouTube channel name, do a quick search to make sure the same brand name is available to use for your:

  • Domain name
  • Social media handles
  • Business name

Inspiring YouTube channel name examples

Want to become a memorable YouTuber? Maybe you already have a channel but want to do a makeover. Either way, you can use the following to inspire your channel's name.

PewDiePie

PewDiePie is the channel name of Swedish YouTuber Felix Arvid Ulf Kjellberg. It's distinctive, memorable, and playful, reflecting the humorous content of the channel. The name reimagines the term “Cutie Pie” with the video-game-related words "Pew" and "Die," making it funny and easy to remember. It reflects the channel's content, which is humorous and about random topics (likely why the name doesn't have a particular niche).

Good Mythical Morning

Good Mythical Morning is a talk-show formatted YouTube channel hosted by Rhett and Link. The name is excellent because it's intriguing and inviting and gives a sense of the content: a show that's good for starting your day with a dose of fun. The channel focuses on food, trends, game challenges, celebrity guests, and interesting experiments. The name also plays with alliteration a little with the mythical morning, which makes it more memorable.

Smosh

Smosh is a simple yet effective name for a YouTube channel. It's short, easy to pronounce, and has a high recall value. The name doesn't directly describe the channel's comedic content, but its uniqueness has helped it become a recognizable brand. The name's simplicity is its strength, making it easy to search for and share.

Nerdwriter1

Nerdwriter1 is a channel with video essays on a wide range of subjects. The name is descriptive and targeted; it tells you that the channel's content is for those who appreciate a nerdy, in-depth analysis of various artsy topics—think film, paintings, and music.

The "1" at the end could imply that the channel is the top source for such content, which is a smart way to position oneself in a competitive niche.

Yoga With Adriene

Yoga With Adriene is a channel name that is both personal and descriptive. It clearly states the content viewers can expect—yoga—and personalizes it with the host's name, Adriene. This makes the channel feel more intimate and approachable, as if you're getting personal yoga lessons from Adriene herself.

The straightforwardness of the name helps with searchability for those interested in yoga content. Plus, it uses the term "yoga," which is a keyword that can help its videos appear in search results.

Cocomelon

Cocomelon is a family-managed YouTube channel that has become the second biggest channel with 170 million subscribers. The name is simple, catchy, and easy to remember, which is ideal for their target audience of children and families. It also helps that the channel has catchy songs and themes kids love, and parents can't help but sing along to.

Philip DeFranco

Using a personal name as the channel name, like Philip DeFranco, can be a great strategy, especially if the content is centered around the creator's personality or viewpoints. It establishes a direct connection with the audience and can build a strong personal brand. In this case, it's for a channel about everything news and pop culture that he finds sensational and shareworthy.

How to change your YouTube channel name

Changing your YouTube channel name can be done in a few simple steps. Here's how to do it:

  1. Log in to your account. Go to the YouTube website and log in to your account.
  2. Access your channel. Click your profile icon, located in the top-right corner of the screen, and select "YouTube Studio."
  3. Customize your channel. Select the blue "Customization" button in the lower left of the screen.
  4. Edit channel name. Select the "Basic Info" tab. Click the Edit icon next to your YouTube channel name, which looks like a pencil. Add your desired channel name in the text box.
  5. Publish changes. Click the blue "Publish" button toward the screen's top-right corner to change your channel name.

Remember: Changing your channel name will remove verification, so don't forget to reapply. Also, changing your YouTube name doesn't impact your Google name.

175 YouTube channel name ideas for more subs

Multiple computer screens showing Descript's tool
